Perhaps one of New England's most unusual crops, shade tobacco is grown only throughout the narrow corridor of the Connecticut River Valley from Northern Connecticut up into Southern Massachusetts. Acres upon acres of this unique tobacco are raised beneath a fabric canopy that diffuses the sunlight and produces a supple, light-colored leaf which is considered one of the finest in the world.
